Area

Image
Area  is the  quantity  that expresses the extent of a  two-dimensional  figure or  shape , or  planar lamina , in the  plane .  Surface area  is its analog on the two-dimensional  surface  of a  three-dimensional object . Area can be understood as the amount of material with a given thickness that would be necessary to fashion a model of the shape, or the amount of  paint  necessary to cover the surface with a single coat. [1]  It is the two-dimensional analog of the  length  of a  curve  (a one-dimensional concept) or the  volume  of a solid (a three-dimensional concept). Area Common symbols A SI unit Square metre  [m 2 ] In  SI base units 1  m 2 The combined area of these three  shapes  is  approximately  15.57  squares .

Railway time and ordinary time

Image
Railway time  was the standardised time arrangement first applied by the  Great Western Railway  in England in November 1840, the first recorded occasion when different  local mean times  were synchronised and a single  standard time  applied. Railway time was progressively taken up by all railway companies in Great Britain over the following two to three years. The schedules by which trains were organised and the time  station clocks  displayed were brought in line with the local mean time for London or "London Time", the time set at  Greenwich  by the  Royal Observatory , which was already widely known as  Greenwich Mean Time  (GMT). Ordinary Time  comprises two periods of time in the  Christian   liturgical year  that are found in the calendar of the ordinary form of the  Roman Rite  of the  Catholic Church , as well as some other churches of  Western Christianity , includ...

TYPES OF SYMMETRY

Symmetry (geometry)A drawing of a butterfly with  bilateral symmetry , with left and right sides as mirror images of each other. A geometric object has  symmetry  if there is an "operation" or "transformation" (such as an  isometry  or  affine map ) that maps the figure/object onto itself; i.e., it is said that the object has an  invariance  under the transform. For instance, a circle rotated about its center will have the same shape and size as the original circle—all points before and after the transform would be indistinguishable. A circle is said to be  symmetric under rotation  or to have  rotational symmetry . If the isometry is the reflection of a  plane figure , the figure is said to have  reflectional symmetry  or  line symmetry ; moreover, it is possible for a figure/object to have more than one line of symmetry. Te types of symmetries that are possible for a geometric object depend on the set of ...
